The 40-year-old man who allegedly attacked the girl was arrested in connection with the incident and worked in the building where she lived with her family.
The alleged attack happened in Delhi on Saturday, which was the sixth anniversary of the gang rape on a bus in 2012.
The girl was rushed to hospital and underwent emergency surgery after being found unconscious by police.
Local reports say the girl was the victim of a 'brutal' attack and it is not known if she will recover.
The security guard was reportedly attacked by neighbours before police arrived and suffered minor injuries.
Swati Maliwal, Delhi's Women Commissioner, posted about the attack online saying: "She is bleeding profusely and is [very] critical."
She later added: "I am sitting outside the operation theatre and have just spoken to the doctors.
"The child is battling for her life."
