We came announced so we were granted access. The prison cells were filled with several inmates serving different jail terms.
It was a sorrowful experience as we beheld able bodied men and women locked behind bars, Some with life sentences. Can’t forget a lady I saw crying on seeing us, she kept pleading for mercy, saying she doesn't want to die in prison. I felt sober hearing her stories, i was helpless to her and speechless too.
But with us were relief materials, food items and first aid, which we shared generously.
Our medical experts treated inmates with open wounds and administered drugs to the sick ones.
For those with dampened spirit, words of advice and wisdom went forth.
It was a sober experience for all the DWA team really, but this mandate we have taken upon ourselves to reach out to the lost ones. To inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats women, children and humans in general to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.
