The music platform, which recently re-branded its internet radio station from truspotradio to TruSpot.fm, has also released an Android app to let users discover and share African music on the go.
While describing the upgrade as “the most significant release since our launch to the market in December 2006″, TruSpot says it has added majority of the most requested features from user feedback, such as Love Button, Artist Self Service, Track Uploads, Spot Feed and Follow Button.
With Love Button, you can favourite songs you’ve listened to and with the Follow Button, users can follow people who interest them from artists to other users, just like you would on Twitter, and lets you see their activity on your feed. You can follow me on TruSpot, if you find me interesting
Your feed called Spot Feed is a Twitter-like timeline focused on the music habits of the users you’re following on the platform, so you get to see whatever their activity on the platform whether creating a playlist, favouriting a song or their comment posts on your timeline, sorry, err…Spot Feed.
However, my guess is that this could create a noisy and crowded Spot Feed for users who are following a lot of other users which could make it hard to keep up with activities you may be interested in. I think TruSpot would have to figure out a way to feature the most relevant user habits and activities on the feeds.
For example, I personally wouldn’t want to see comments from those I follow or who they just followed or which music they rated on my Spot Feed. Rather, I’d like to see activity about which songs they’re listening to, what songs they recommend or which new artists they just discovered.
The new TruSpot also comes with a growing music catalogue featuring legendary artists like Fela Kuti to modern age artists like Wale and lets you search over thousands of African songs, even on the mobile app and share them with your friends.
Artists now have control of their content and profiles, and can easily interact with their followers and view those who favourite their songs, while users can also leave a review, repost an update from artists and meet new friends from around the world. TruSpot founder, iKE Orizu tells me that over 200 artists have already signed up with the platform.
Perhaps the coolest feature of this new upgrade is that the platform uses the listening habits of users based on their actions to recommend the right songs for them to listen as well as give artists insights through detailed statistics into who is listening to their songs.
With a cool and fresh user interface and user experience, the new TruSpot is definitely a great place to follow and interact with your favorite artists, build playlists with your friends, discuss and share your African music experience with friends and followers.
